The President of the Republic of Ghana and African Union Champion for Gender and Development Issues, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, has arrived in Beijing, China, to participate in the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women. The high-level meeting is scheduled to take place on October 13th and 14th, 2025. President Mahama’s attendance underscores Ghana’s and the African Union’s commitment to advancing gender equality and development issues across the continent and globally.
The crucial summit is being co-hosted by China and UN Women and focuses on reaffirming global commitments to women empowerment. Specifically, the meeting is expected to renew the pledges made three decades ago during the Fourth World Conference on Women, highlighting the ongoing effort required by world leaders to translate those foundational agreements into concrete progress for women worldwide.
Accompanying President Mahama is a delegation of senior government officials, including the First Lady, Her Excellency Lordina Mahama, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP). Their participation signals the importance Ghana places on the discussions and the intent to contribute actively to the meeting’s expected outcome of strengthening global strategies for gender equality and development.
