Ghana’s Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has inaugurated a 17-member Board of Trustees for the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to oversee the management of the fund. The board comprises representatives from key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, Ghana Education Service, and various industry associations.
The Minister emphasized GETFund’s critical role in Ghana’s educational landscape, particularly in infrastructure development, scholarships, and provision of teaching materials. He also highlighted the board’s statutory significance, noting that no expenditure from the fund can be undertaken without its approval.
Under the current administration, GETFund will support the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme, ensuring its sustainability and effective delivery. The Minister encouraged the board to engage with key partners to enhance resource mobilization and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to providing policy guidance and institutional backing.
The new board, chaired by Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, is expected to address infrastructure deficits, promote equitable access to tertiary education, and support research and innovation through transparent funding. This development comes as Ghana continues to prioritize education and invest in its future generations.
