Chicago, June 28, 2024 — The Ghanaian community in Chicago came together in solidarity to pay tribute to the late Nana Akwasi Appiah. As the second elected President and Chief of the Asanteman Association of Chicago and the Midwest, Nana Akwasi left an indelible mark on the community.
The traditional Final Funeral Rites took place at 1340 West Washington Street, Chicago. Prior to this, a Memorial Grand Mass was held at 2248 West Washington Street,Chicago , Illinois. Attendees expressed heartfelt love and support for the bereaved family during the ceremonies.

Notable figures in attendance included Mr. Kassim Abubakari, President of the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago (GNC), and other GNC officers. Out-of-state dignitaries and members from various GNC affiliates also participated. Among them was Mr. Paa Kwasi Sam, a former GNC President.

Tributes flowed in honor of Nana Akwasi, highlighting his generosity, meek demeanor, and his days with the Sahara Football Club—a defunct Ghanaian soccer team in Chicago.
Former members of the Sahara Football Team paid tribute to the late Nana Akwasi during his funeral. The ceremony included the presentation of Nana’s favorite number 2 jersey and an autographed soccer ball. Additionally, The Ghanaian Catholic Church and the Asanteman Association of the Midwest, both of which Nana was a member, offered their donations and other gifts.
The event featured Aaron Marfo and Daasebre Kwame as the Emcees. Both showcased remarkable talent, while Deejay Odikro curated an electrifying playlist that kept the crowd dancing throughout the commemoration.
