The World Health Organization (WHO) met with the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to discuss ways to improve access to childhood cancer medications and enhance healthcare delivery in Ghana.

The meeting centered around measures to combat childhood cancer, including providing medicines, strengthening technology, and training programs for the cancer workforce. These initiatives aim to reduce the disparity in childhood cancer outcomes between countries.

Mr. Akandoh welcomed the WHO’s initiatives, emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services. He assured that the government has implemented measures to sustain and improve healthcare delivery nationwide, with the goal of building a healthcare system for all Ghanaians.

This meeting marks a step towards improving childhood cancer care in Ghana. With the support of the WHO and the government’s commitment, Ghana is poised to make progress in enhancing healthcare outcomes for its citizens.

Ghana has taken steps to address childhood cancer, including the inclusion of childhood cancers in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Benefit Package, which covers diagnosis and treatment of childhood cancers.

The collaboration between the WHO and the Ghanaian government is a development in the fight against childhood cancer, and it is hoped that it will bring about improvements in healthcare outcomes for children in Ghana.
