The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) on June 24, 2024, launched the Ghana Living Standards Survey 8 (GLSS 8), focusing on learning poverty. The launch, held at the Ministry of Education, was a culmination of the national dialogue on Ghana’s Poverty and Food Insecurity Measurement Statistics and Policy Status, which took place at Alisa Hotel.

At the dialogue, Prof. Annim, the Government Statistician, stressed the importance of domesticating statistics to address poverty and food insecurity. Paul Andres Rodas from the World Bank presented the District-Level Consumption Expenditure Poverty Report for Ghana, highlighting the value of the Survey-Administered Enterprise (SAE) in providing accurate data.

The GLSS 8 survey revealed that a significant proportion of Ghanaian children are unable to read and understand simple texts, highlighting the need for urgent attention to improve education outcomes. The launch and dialogue brought together stakeholders from various sectors to discuss findings and implications for policy and decision-making, emphasizing the need for accurate data and sustained partnerships to achieve sustainable development goals.
