Accra, Ghana – Ghanaian citizens will now benefit from visa-free travel to Morocco, a significant policy change effective immediately. This pivotal announcement was made by Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, upon concluding a two-day working visit to Morocco, where the agreement was formalized with his Moroccan counterpart, H.E. Nasser Bourita.

Under the terms of this new arrangement, prospective Ghanaian travelers will no longer be required to obtain a traditional visa. Instead, an online travel authorization will suffice, with approval anticipated within a swift 24-hour period, thereby removing the previous necessity for embassy appointments and streamlining the travel process.

Minister Ablakwa expressed strong optimism regarding the economic and social implications of this bilateral visa waiver. He anticipates that the eased travel restrictions, combined with the current direct flight routes which are slated for an increase following this new accord, will significantly facilitate greater trade volumes, stimulate tourism between the two countries, and cultivate deeper people-to-people engagements.

The Minister underscored a broader diplomatic philosophy, stating that “the borders in Africa must not be allowed to divide us — they can be bridges of connectivity,” and reiterated his belief that diplomacy must translate into tangible benefits for the populace it serves. Minister Ablakwa also conveyed warm Eid greetings to all Muslim communities.
