Ghana’s trade balance has continued to show positive growth, with a trade surplus of 3.9 billion cedis recorded in the third quarter of 2024. This marks the fourth consecutive quarter of positive trade balance. The total trade value for the quarter stood at 145.7 billion cedis. The details are : 74.8 billion cedis in exports and 70.9 billion cedis in imports during the quarter.

Gold emerged as the major contributor to Ghana’s export portfolio, with its share of total exports surging from 42.5% in the third quarter of 2023 to 62.1% in the same period of 2024. The United Arab Emirates remains the top destination for Ghana’s gold exports, while China is the main source of imports.
However, the data also reveals a marginal decline in trade surplus over the past three quarters, raising concerns about the sustainability of this trend. Government Statistician, Prof. Samuel Kobina Anim, disclosed this information during a media briefing in Accra.
