During the closing session of the 2025 Paris Peace Forum, which centered on Information Integrity and Independent Media, Ghana reaffirmed its administration’s commitment to bolstering media freedom. The discussions on Wednesday, which included French President Emmanuel Macron and other global leaders, provided a platform to acknowledge Ghana’s existing leadership position on the African continent regarding press freedom and the promotion of credible, independent journalism.
As a concrete demonstration of this commitment, Ghana announced it will be joining the Partnership for Information and Democracy as a full member. Furthermore, the nation will lend its support to the International Fund for Public Interest Media. These steps signal that Ghana remains steadfast in its dedication to advancing the frontiers of freedom, upholding the rule of law, and serving as a model nation in promoting democracy and good governance on the global stage.
The commitment articulated during the forum included the necessity to continuously support journalists and institutions dedicated to integrity and accountability. The administration also stressed the importance of demanding transparency and ethical responsibility from digital and Artificial Intelligence (AI) platforms, alongside strengthening international cooperation efforts to safeguard information as a shared global asset.
