Ghana’s Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, announced the government’s commitment to strengthening economic cooperation with China to accelerate industrial growth and investment. Speaking at the Ghana–China Presidential Investment Forum in Beijing during President John Dramani Mahama’s state visit, Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare hailed China as a strategic ally in Ghana’s ongoing economic transformation.
The Minister detailed that President Mahama’s “Resetting Ghana” agenda is aimed at making the country a more competitive and investor-friendly destination in Africa. This effort is supported by the realignment of the Trade Ministry to include Agribusiness, demonstrating a focus on promoting value addition and attracting targeted investment. The partnership with China, she noted, is founded on mutual trust and shared prosperity across key sectors, including infrastructure, energy, and industrial development.
Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare welcomed China’s zero-tariff treatment for 100 per cent of tariff lines from African countries, highlighting the significant export opportunities for Ghanaian goods. She assured Chinese investors of a transparent climate, strong support systems, and emphasized Ghana’s unique position as a gateway to the over 400 million consumers in the ECOWAS region and the vast African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The Minister also commended major Chinese firms operating in Ghana, such as Sunda International, for showing confidence in the business environment.
