The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, was a key figure in the Ghanaian leg of the Commonwealth Sport King’s Baton Relay, a tradition symbolizing the unity and diversity of the Commonwealth nations leading up to the major sporting event. The IGP formally received the baton, an iconic item carrying a message from the Head of the Commonwealth, King Charles III, during a brief but significant ceremony held at the Police Headquarters. The baton was officially handed over to him by the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (DG/CID).

The handover event served as a moment to highlight the police service’s role in national events and their commitment to collaboration with other state agencies. After receiving the baton, IGP Yohuno immediately moved to pass the symbolic item on to its next designated custodian. This quick transition ensured the smooth continuation of the relay’s journey across the country, a vital part of the global movement. The ceremony, while brief, represented the Ghana Police Service’s active participation in this major international sporting tradition.

IGP Yohuno subsequently passed the Commonwealth Sport King’s Baton to representatives from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). This act underscored the importance of inter-agency cooperation and the collective national effort to celebrate the Commonwealth Games. The GNFS will now be responsible for carrying the baton on the next stage of its route, demonstrating the baton’s unifying spirit as it travels through various hands and communities before its eventual arrival at the Games’ opening ceremony.
