The Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago, GNC, has again arranged an exquisite program celebrating Ghana @67 in Chicago. This year, the event comes off at the Ashton Place, 341 75th Street, Willowbrook, IL 60527. It kicks off from 8 pm to 1 am prompt.
Every independent country celebrates this day to remember its freedom fighters and achievement of sovereignty or statehood with utmost nostalgia. Ghanaians in Ghana and the diaspora are no exception. Every year, the GNC organizes events in the Chicago area to commemorate the landmark. Recently, such prestigious gatherings have brought together a large group of the first and new generation of Ghanaians living in the Chicago area. Ghanaian immigrants in Chicago proudly adorn colorful Kente and other magnificent and authentic fabrics to showcase at the event.
The council also uses the day to acknowledge the remarkable contributions of community members to its courses.
This year, those selected for the notable awards are:
Mrs. Patience Yawa Adigbli: will be presented with the ”Pioneer of Excellence Award”, for her contribution to the betterment of the Ghanaian community by being among the pioneers that founded the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago, where she proudly served as the General Secretary from 1997 to 2003 in addition to many other community roles.
Imam Baba Cisse: will receive the ”Community Support of Excellence Award”, for his community involvement & preservation of culture. We thank him for his in-depth knowledge and contribution as a founding member of the Haske Organization, former GNC President, and the senior religious leader in the Muslim community.
Dr. Hajia Habiba Seidu-Fuseini, MSN-FNP-C, EdD. will deservedly take home The Excellence to Humanity award for being an advocate for the underserved and underprivileged, her mission in promoting the development of Northern Ghana, as well as her contributions to the Ghanaian Northern community in Chicago.
Nana Kwame Frimpong: will be recognized with the ”Community Development of Excellence Award” for his dedication in the progression of the community leadership qualities displayed as the Abusuapanin with the Ghanaian Chieftaincy Council of Chicago.
The President’s Excellence Award will go to The Presbyterian Church of Ghana Redemption Congregation for hosting the Ghanaian Community Health Clinic. The Church’s Dedication to serving the community is truly commendable and we thank you for your selfless efforts in providing healthcare to those in need.
