Today, Ghana’s Parliament played host to a crucial forum marking International Kidney Awareness Day. The event, themed “Are Your Kidneys, OK? Detect Early! Protect Early!”, brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including healthcare experts, Members of Parliament, Staff of the Parliamentary Service, and citizens. The forum’s primary objective was to emphasize the importance of early detection and prevention of kidney diseases.

Deputy Clerk of Parliament Camillo Pwamang commended the Ghana Kidney Association for their tireless efforts in mobilizing support for individuals affected by kidney disease. He pledged Parliament’s support in expediting the passage of necessary legislation to streamline the Association’s operations.

An Associate Professor from the University of Ghana Medical School delivered a presentation highlighting the need for regular check-ups and lifestyle changes to protect kidney health. He also drew attention to the rising prevalence of kidney-related diseases in Ghana, stressing the importance of public education on kidney care.

Members of Parliament demonstrated their commitment to supporting policies that prioritize healthcare and raise awareness about kidney diseases. The forum served as a vital opportunity to engage the public on the need for preventive measures and early treatment to reduce the burden of kidney diseases.
