The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations has embarked on a transformative agenda to provide decent jobs for all workers in Ghana and Ghanaians working abroad. Through the Labour Department, the ministry aims to actualize this vision by generating accurate and timely data on the labor market to inform policy decisions.

A press release from the ministry said with funding from the World Bank, the ministry has constructed 16 Public Employment Centres as part of the Ghana Jobs and Skills Project. This initiative is a key support for the government’s agenda to upgrade skills, create quality jobs, and improve job outcomes for the youth.

The project according to the ministry, involves the operationalization of the Ghana Labour Market Information System, revamping Public Employment Centres, constructing a new Labour Department head office, and reviewing government’s Youth Employment and Skills Development Programs.

The newly built Public Employment Centres are eco-friendly and disability-friendly, aligning with international conventions. These centers offer various services, including career guidance, job counseling, job matching, and job fairs.

The Ghana Labour Market Information System is a web-based portal designed to collect, process, and disseminate labor market information. This system facilitates vacancies canvassing, job search assistance, and job matching.

The construction of the Public Employment Centres demonstrates the government’s commitment to job creation, as reflected in the Agenda for Jobs initiative. The project has received widespread appreciation from labor officers, Municipal and District Chief Executives, and traditional authorities.

With these centers in place, all available job vacancies in the country are now accessible in a one-stop-shop online portal. The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations remains committed to attaining its vision of providing decent jobs for all workers in Ghana and Ghanaians working abroad.
