Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy policy was officially launched today, Wednesday, July 2, in a bid to drive economic transformation, enhance productivity, and tackle unemployment. The policy, a flagship promise of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) manifesto, aims to encourage continuous, shift-based work in key sectors such as manufacturing, agro-processing, healthcare, transportation, and retail.

The initiative is expected to create thousands of new jobs, increase national output, and unlock value across supply chains. Companies that enroll in the program will benefit from tax incentives, access to stable electricity, and enhanced nighttime security. The policy is built on three core pillars: transforming production, improving supply chains and market systems, and strengthening human capital.

The government has outlined several sub-programmes to support the policy, including Grow24, Make24, Connect24, and Aspire24. The policy also includes the integration of digital skills into the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system and the launch of the “Show Ghana” initiative to leverage the country’s cultural heritage for tourism and foreign revenue generation.

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has expressed support for the program but urged the government to seek legislative backing to ensure its sustainability. The 24-Hour Economy Secretariat has reiterated its commitment to eliminating excessive discretionary powers within Ghana’s economic framework as part of the policy.
