The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has extended the deadline for gold dealers with old Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) or Ministry-issued licenses to reapply under the new regime. The new deadline is May 21, 2025.

The acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, announced the extension at a press briefing, stating that the Board wants to ensure fairness and give applicants sufficient time to complete the application process. Some applicants had started the process but had not yet completed it, prompting the Board to grant an additional three weeks.

The new Ghana Gold Board Act renders all previous gold trading licenses invalid, and Mr. Gyamfi urged Ghanaians who wish to remain in the trade to apply immediately via the official portal. Applicants are required to pay a fee, create an account, and fill out application forms accurately, as errors or omissions may result in disqualification.

Mr. Gyamfi warned that the new deadline will not be extended further and that trading in gold without a new license after May 21, 2025, will be a punishable criminal offense.
