Accra, Ghana — As Ghana approaches its 68th Independence Anniversary, the National Celebrations Planning Committee (NCPC) has finalized an array of activities to mark the occasion. The celebrations promise to rekindle national pride and honor the nation’s heroes through various events.
Scheduled Activities:
- Commemoration of the 28th February Crossroad Shooting Incident – On Friday, February 28, 2025, the nation will honor the memory of three ex-servicemen who were tragically shot in 1948.
 - Finals of Nationwide School Quiz Competition – Scheduled for Sunday, March 2, 2025, students from across the country will showcase their knowledge and compete for top honors.
 - Finals of Nationwide Debate Competition – Taking place on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, young debaters will engage in thought-provoking discussions on various topics.
 - President’s School Children Awards Programme – On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, outstanding students will be recognized for their achievements in academics and extracurricular activities.
 - Ceremonial Parade – The grand celebration will culminate on Thursday, March 6, 2025, with a ceremonial parade at the forecourt of the Presidency.
 
28th February Event:
The NCPC’s Communications Subcommittee has announced a week of information and educational content leading up to the 28th February Wreath Laying Ceremony. This initiative aims to revive interest and participation among the youth and the general populace in this significant national event.
Key Activities:
- Sharing historical content about the events leading up to the 1948 shooting of three ex-servicemen.
 - Hosting an X-space conversation on “The Changing Face of Civil Protests in Ghana: Lessons from the Past and Present.”
 - Encouraging media outlets to host and publish conversations that promote the anniversary theme and other activities to enhance public engagement.
 - The wreath-laying ceremony will take place at Nationalism Park at 8 a.m. on February 28, 2025. The event will be broadcast live and streamed on multiple platforms.
 - Encouraging media, bloggers, and the public to share information and actively participate in the event.
 
Felix Kwakye Ofosu (MP), the spokesperson to the President and Minister of Government Communications, expressed enthusiasm about the planned events. “We look forward to your participation and engagement and will update you on the remaining activities at a later date,” he stated.
