The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has vowed to press on with its presidential bid despite the sudden passing of its flagbearer, and founder Madam Akua Donkor. She was a seasoned politician known for her resilience and dedication to her country, and sadly passed away at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital on Monday at 10 PM.

Speaking on an Accra based TV Atinka on their Midday News on Tuesday, Roman Fada, the party’s running mate, Akua Donkor was a pillar of strength who demonstrated remarkable resilience despite financial challenges. He praised her commitment to Ghanaians, stating that the party members and executives will protect her policies and legacy. Roman Fada had spoken with Akua Donkor just two days before her passing and shared the events leading up to her demise, including her initial admission to the Nsawam Government Hospital and later transfer to Ridge Hospital.

With Akua Donkor’s passing, Roman Fada has expressed his readiness to take on the mantle of leadership, should the party’s legal framework permit it. The GFP is expected to announce its next steps regarding leadership and future plans soon.

The Electoral Commission has suspended printing of ballot papers awaiting a replacement from the GFP. This development underscores the Commission’s commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process. In fact, the Commission has outlined its electoral process, which includes transparent ballot accounting, audible counting, and carbonized Pink Sheets to ensure the integrity of the elections.

The GFP’s determination to continue its presidential bid is a testament to Akua Donkor’s enduring legacy and the party’s commitment to its vision for Ghana. As the nation mourns the loss of a dedicated public servant, the GFP prepares to move forward, inspired by Akua Donkor’s unwavering dedication to her country.
