Ghana has marked the 77th International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers with a solemn flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony at the State House in Accra. The event, held in collaboration with the UN Office in Accra, honored the service and sacrifice of peacekeepers under the theme “The Future of Peacekeeping: Strengthening Partnerships and Multilateralism in Ghana and Beyond”.

The Minister for Government Communications, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, emphasized the crucial role peacekeepers play in building resilient societies and advocated for strengthening collaboration between the UN and other organizations. The Resident Coordinator ad Interim and UNICEF Representative in Ghana, Mr. Osama Makkawi Khogali, paid tribute to Ghana’s dedicated security personnel and civilian partners, noting that Ghana has been a steadfast pillar in UN peacekeeping efforts since the 1960s.

The ceremony also paid tribute to over 4,400 fallen peacekeepers, including two Ghanaians who will receive the Dag Hammarskjold Medal posthumously. The event was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, traditional leaders, security personnel, and students.
