Accra, Ghana – The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that all its medical facilities nationwide are fully operational and have increased healthcare services to the public, despite the ongoing strike by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA). This move aims to ensure continuous healthcare provision for citizens during the industrial action.

The Ghana Armed Forces Critical Care and Emergency Hospital, situated behind the Air Force Officers Mess, has begun accepting walk-in patients in addition to critical care cases. Furthermore, the African Rapid Response Partnership, a facility typically dedicated to GAF peacekeeping operations, is establishing a field hospital at 37 Military Hospital, expected to be operational by Friday, June 13, 2025, to accommodate more patients.

At the 37 Military Hospital’s Medical Emergency Unit, a routine fumigation exercise, initiated before the strike, necessitated the creation of an alternative medical emergency unit at the Genito-Urinary Unit. This alternative unit is currently providing critical care, with the main Medical Emergency Unit scheduled to resume full operation by Saturday, June 14, 2025.

In response to the situation, the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, led a delegation to assess the readiness of these facilities and made a financial donation to assist the hospital in procuring medical consumables. The GAF is also appealing to individuals and organizations for support. The Armed Forces assures the public of its healthcare professionals’ commitment to providing high-quality critical and emergency services during this challenging period.
