ACCRA, GHANA – Defence Minister Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah has announced a significant expansion of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), with plans to recruit 12,000 new personnel over the next three to four years. This initiative aims to bolster the nation’s defence capabilities while providing substantial career opportunities for Ghanaians.

New, equitable recruitment guidelines are slated for release by August 2025, designed to ensure that all deserving Ghanaians have access to these opportunities based purely on merit. Concurrently, a new, optional National Service Emergency Response Readiness Programme will launch in August, inviting 10,000 volunteers to undergo military training. This program is intended to enhance participants’ skills, foster discipline, and contribute to national readiness.

Dr. Omane Boamah emphasized that under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, both the GAF and the Ministry of Defence are committed to a recruitment process that is 100% merit-based. He issued a stern warning to the public against paying anyone for enlistment into the armed forces.

The Minister urged citizens to report any fraudsters attempting to solicit money for recruitment to the nearest police station or military barracks, reiterating that aspiring service members should rely solely on their abilities to achieve their dream of serving Ghana.
