The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), met with the Head of Office and Representative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) to Ghana, Mr. Edmond Moukala, on Thursday, November 27, 2025, to discuss cooperation on the African Union’s (AU) continental agenda on reparations. This high-level meeting is part of ongoing engagements as Ghana leads the effort following the AU’s declaration of 2026-2036 as the Decade of Reparations to address the historical injustices arising from slave
Mr. Moukala praised Ghana for its leadership role in the matter and recalled key events undertaken by UNESCO related to reparations. He firmly assured the Minister of UNESCO’s readiness to accompany both Ghana and the wider African Union in actively pursuing the comprehensive reparation agenda.
In response, the Minister acknowledged the longstanding cooperation between UNESCO and Ghana. He reiterated Ghana’s unwavering commitment to working closely with the organization and other relevant international bodies in seeking justice for Africans and People of African descent through the crucial process of reparations.
