Accra, Ghana – July 17, 2025 – Ghana and Serbia have solidified their commitment to fostering deeper cultural ties and boosting tourism, marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Accra. The agreement, signed by Ghana’s Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, and the Serbian Minister for Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Marko Duric, aims to enhance cultural exchange, promote creative industries, and encourage tourism investment between the two nations.
The signing ceremony, held at the Ministry’s conference room, represents “a legal and diplomatic step forward in building bridges between our two cultures,” stated Hon. Gomashie. She emphasized that the MoU will facilitate mutual learning between their creative sectors and invite industry players to connect and grow collaboratively.
The agreement is set to pave the way for extensive technical and professional exchanges. Serbia is expected to share its expertise in arts, crafts, and creative education, while Ghana will showcase its unique cultural offerings to Serbian audiences.
Highlighting Ghana’s rich heritage, Minister Gomashie extended an invitation to Serbia to participate in the upcoming AfroGhastro Festival, a celebration of African and diaspora culinary traditions. She underscored the potential of food as a powerful tool for cultural storytelling and global connection.
Further demonstrating Ghana’s commitment to international engagement, Hon. Gomashie announced the nation’s participation in the 2027 World Expo in Serbia. This global exhibition, anticipated to host over 130 countries, presents a strategic opportunity to showcase Ghanaian culture, sports, and innovation on a global stage.
In a symbolic gesture of goodwill, the Ghanaian Minister presented her Serbian counterpart with Adinkra-themed gifts, embodying Ghana’s identity and philosophy. “He leaves with a piece of Ghana; our stories, our symbols, and our spirit,” she remarked.
H.E. Mr. Marko Duric expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm Ghanaian hospitality, describing it as a testament to the “brotherly bond” that has historically linked the two nations since the era of President Kwame Nkrumah. He acknowledged their shared history, particularly during the anti-colonial era, as a guiding force in their political and diplomatic relationship. “Today, we reaffirm our commitment to elevating that friendship into meaningful economic, cultural, and diplomatic cooperation,” he stated.
The Serbian Minister also lauded Ghana’s development vision, noting its alignment with Serbia’s own transformative journey. “In less than a decade, we doubled the size of our economy. We believe Ghana can do the same and we are ready to support this transformation,” he affirmed.
Minister Duric extended an open invitation to Hon. Gomashie to visit Serbia and pledged support for increased trade, investment, and cultural exchange between the two nations, concluding, “Let us continue this unique friendship built on shared values, culture, and a vision for the future.”
Following the signing, the Serbian delegation, led by Minister Duric, visited the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, paying homage to Ghana’s revered founding father, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
