New York, USA – Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates of the Kingdom of Morocco, H.E. Nasser Bourita, met on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly to reaffirm their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. The meeting built upon the framework established during Minister Ablakwa’s recent working visit to Morocco, which Minister Bourita commended for its “action-oriented approach” leading to tangible results. The Ministers noted the positive impact of the recently agreed visa waiver arrangement in facilitating travel for Ghanaian citizens, with Morocco’s Minister Bourita indicating that the two nations would aim to progress towards full visa exemption to further ease mobility.
Beyond travel, the discussions covered collaboration in agriculture and education. Minister Ablakwa expressed appreciation for Morocco’s support, including the supply of 40,000 bags of fertilizer to Ghana and ongoing cooperation between Moroccan agricultural experts and Ghanaian academic institutions. Minister Bourita assured that regular supplies of fertilizer would be maintained to support Ghanaian farmers, stressing the need for timely coordination ahead of the next planting season. Both Ministers also welcomed the recent increase in scholarships granted by Morocco to Ghanaian students.
Looking to expand economic ties, the Ministers discussed the upcoming Ghana-Morocco Business Forum scheduled for November 2025. They also considered the prospect of a Moroccan business delegation visiting Ghana to explore new avenues for trade and investment. Both sides concluded the meeting with optimism that these future engagements would deepen ties and deliver mutually beneficial outcomes for both nations.
