Ghana and Japan Pledge Deeper Cooperation to Boost Health Sector

The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, met with the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Mochizuki Hisanobu, in Beijing on Monday to discuss ongoing and future areas of cooperation in Ghana’s health sector. The discussion, held at the Ministry of Health, focused on strengthening existing bilateral partnerships, particularly in the areas of health research, enhancing medical equipment capacity, and providing institutional support for the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.

The Ministry acknowledged Japan’s longstanding support to the health sector through key agencies like the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and various other bilateral initiatives. Both the Minister and the Ambassador emphasized the critical importance of sustaining this collaborative effort.

Furthermore, the meeting explored opportunities for private sector involvement in advancing Ghana’s health infrastructure and research capabilities. The mutual commitment from both Ghana and Japan is aimed at creating a more robust and advanced healthcare system in the country.
