Ghana and Cuba have reaffirmed their long-standing relationship, with the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Parrilla, highlighting the deep bonds of friendship and solidarity between the two nations. The relationship, which dates back to the era of Kwame Nkrumah and Fidel Castro, has endured for decades, with Ghana being the first Sub-Saharan African country to establish diplomatic relations with Cuba.
During their meeting at the 80th United Nations General Assembly, Minister Parrilla expressed appreciation for Ghana’s consistent support toward the removal of restrictions imposed on Cuba. He underscored Cuba’s commitment to deepen cooperation with Ghana, particularly in new areas of economic engagement, while advancing ongoing agreements in health and education.
Notably, Cuba has trained a significant percentage of Ghanaian doctors, strengthening Ghana’s health sector. Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, thanked Cuba for its support and assured that Ghana will continue to explore additional avenues of collaboration beyond existing programs.
