The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has taken drastic measures against McDan Aviation, shutting down its private jet terminal at the Kotoka International Airport due to an outstanding debt of over $3 million. This debt includes unpaid land leases, rentals, and terminal charges that McDan Aviation failed to settle despite a Christmas deadline.
This isn’t the first time McDan Aviation has faced action from GACL. In February 2022, the company was barred from operating private jet services at Terminal 1 due to operational breaches. A letter from GACL’s then-Managing Director, Yaw Kwakwa, instructed McDan Aviation to cease operations, citing non-compliance with terminal usage terms.
Despite previous warnings and shutdowns, McDan Aviation’s inability to settle its financial obligations has led to this latest closure. The company officially launched its private jet terminal on January 28, 2022, but the event was boycotted by major stakeholders, including the Transport Minister and GACL officials, who raised concerns about McDan Aviation’s operations.
The Ghana Airport Company Divisional Union of the Public Services Workers Union of TUC has expressed support for GACL’s decision, warning that similar actions will be taken against other partners with outstanding debts.
