German President Steinmeier to Begin Three-Day State Visit to Ghana on Sunday
His Excellency Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Republic of Germany, is scheduled to begin a three-day State Visit to Ghana on Sunday, November 2, 2025, concluding his engagements on Tuesday, November 4. The official programme begins Monday morning at the Forecourt of The Presidency, where President Steinmeier will inspect a full military Guard of Honour before holding a closed-door meeting with his host, President John Dramani Mahama. Following this, the two leaders and their respective delegations will proceed to bilateral talks focused on deepening Ghana-Germany relations, with specific emphasis on trade, investment, technology transfer, and development cooperation initiatives.
In the afternoon of the first full day, a State Luncheon will be hosted for President Steinmeier and his delegation at the Presidential Banquet Hall. Later that day, the German President will participate in a historical observance by laying a wreath at the tomb of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, during a guided tour of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. The itinerary also includes an engagement with young Ghanaian IT specialists before concluding the day with a reception hosted by the German Ambassador at the Ambassador’s Residence.
The final day of the visit, Tuesday, will see President Steinmeier travel to Kumasi. His activities in the Ashanti Regional capital include officiating the sod-cutting ceremony for the Kumasi Technical Institute, meeting with the Vice Chancellor, staff, and alumni of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), and visiting the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research. Before his departure on Tuesday evening, President Steinmeier is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace.
