Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia participated in a high-level panel discussion at the 2025 International Democracy Union Forum in Brussels. The panel discussed the topic “Trade Wars, Tariff Battles and the New Geoeconomic Order: How to Restore Stability”.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that trade imbalances are a result of macroeconomic imbalances and that tariffs alone cannot fix these imbalances. He also highlighted the importance of trust in trade negotiations, citing “Mutually Assured Suspicion” as a major challenge to achieving optimal outcomes.
Dr. Bawumia urged key global players to address the issue of mistrust among them to facilitate more effective trade negotiations and restore stability in the global trade landscape.
