Former German President Christian Wulff Visits University of Ghana, Commends MIASA’s Impactful Research

Former German President Christian Wulff recently visited the University of Ghana, where he engaged with the German-supported Maria Sibylla Merian Institute for Advanced Studies in Africa (MIASA). The visit aimed to discuss ongoing efforts in restitution and cultural heritage, and Wulff commended MIASA for its key role in promoting interdisciplinary research and decolonizing knowledge production.

During the meeting, Prof. Grace Diabah, Co-Director (Ghana), highlighted MIASA’s achievements in creating fellowship opportunities, sustainability efforts, and advancing cross-cultural academic partnerships. Prof. Mamadou Diawara, Co-Director (Germany), elaborated on the Institute’s thematic focus areas, including knowledge production, sustainability, governance, and bridging cultural divides.

Wulff also visited the Department of Philosophy and Classics, demonstrating his commitment to fostering academic partnerships and cultural exchange between Germany and Ghana. The visit underscores the importance of international cooperation in promoting impactful research and addressing global challenges.
