The Parliamentary Select Committee on Foreign Affairs has visited key agencies under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration. The agencies visited include the Ministry, Passport Office, and the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC). The purpose of the visit was to assess operational challenges and understand the current state of affairs within these agencies.

During the visit, the Committee received briefings on various issues affecting the agencies. At the Ministry, the Chief Director highlighted the evolving geopolitical landscape and its implications on national interest. He also identified gaps in border security and emphasized the need to intensify Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities.

At the Passport Office, the Director outlined the passport application process and announced the implementation of a 24-hour service to improve efficiency. However, he raised concerns about inconsistencies in applicants’ identification documents, noting that mismatches between names on Ghana Cards and birth certificates often delay processing. The AICC also briefed the Committee on the challenges it faces and appealed for assistance.

The Committee Chairman commended the agencies for their dedication and transparency, expressing appreciation for their efforts to promote Ghana’s interests. He stated that the Committee is grateful for the concerns shared and thankful for the opportunity to engage with the agencies. The visit aimed to foster better understanding and collaboration between the Committee and the agencies.
