The National Conference of Chief Fishermen and Queen Fishmongers successfully concluded a two-day dialogue at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), held from November 20 to 21, 2025, to mark World Fisheries Day.
The conference, which convened Chief Fishermen, Queen Fishmongers, policymakers, academics, civil society groups, and key stakeholders, focused on the theme: “Resetting Fisheries — Chief Fishermen and Fishmongers as Guardians and Partners in Sustainable Fisheries Management.”
The event was highly distinguished by the presence of H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, who served as the Guest of Honour, and His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, who was the Special Guest.
The two-day session established a strong platform for strengthening partnerships, fostering knowledge exchange, and reaffirming a collective commitment to key national priorities: rebuilding fish stocks, protecting vital marine ecosystems, and securing the livelihoods of coastal communities.
Organizers offered a special acknowledgment to international partners—Bloomberg Ocean Initiative, Blue Ventures, and Oceans 5—for their support in making the conference possible, signaling a united approach toward securing the future of Ghana’s fisheries sector.
