Accra, Ghana – First Lady Lordina Mahama, through her Lordina Foundation, has spearheaded a significant health screening exercise, providing free medical services to over 145 retired Assemblies of God ministers and their spouses in Accra. This initiative, the third quarterly screening organized by the Foundation, underscores Mrs. Mahama’s ongoing commitment to the welfare of senior members of the clergy.
Held at the Ringway Gospel Centre, the comprehensive screening program offered a range of vital healthcare provisions. Beneficiaries received free medical consultations, essential laboratory tests to check for conditions such as blood sugar levels, Hepatitis B, and certain cancers, as well as prescribed medication.
Additionally, the event facilitated access to specialist care, ensuring that the retirees received thorough medical attention for their diverse health needs.
Mrs. Mahama, herself a dedicated member of the Assemblies of God Church, reiterated her personal pledge to support the well-being of these esteemed retirees.
She used the occasion to encourage them to register for the upcoming Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as “Mahama Cares.” This crucial new fund, recently launched by President John Dramani Mahama, is designed to offer dedicated financial support for the treatment of chronic and debilitating illnesses that are not fully covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The “Mahama Cares” initiative aims to bridge critical gaps in healthcare access, particularly for those facing the substantial financial burden of long-term medical conditions like kidney failure, cancers, and heart diseases, ensuring more equitable healthcare for all Ghanaians.
The Lordina Foundation’s consistent health screenings, alongside the promotion of “Mahama Cares,” demonstrate a concerted effort to enhance the health and quality of life for the nation’s elderly.
