Ghana’s First Lady, Lordina Mahama, celebrated Mother’s Day by visiting women on admission at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital’s maternity block. She presented care packages to the mothers and settled the medical bills of 224 women who had delivered earlier that day and those who remained at the hospital due to financial constraints.
The gesture was described as “truly life-changing” by the beneficiaries. The First Lady interacted with new mothers, expectant women, and staff, bringing joy and warmth to every bedside.
The head of midwifery at the hospital expressed gratitude to the First Lady and appealed for support to address the poor condition of the elevator serving the maternity block, citing concerns for patient safety.
