Accra, July 9, 2025 – Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson today underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to agricultural development, stating that no nation can achieve sustained progress without it, as he inaugurated the new Board of Directors for the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB). The Minister urged the newly appointed board members to maintain their focus on the bank’s core mandate: serving Ghana’s vital agricultural sector.

In a significant pledge, Dr. Forson assured the board and management that the government intends to inject capital into the ADB next year. This capitalization is expected to empower the bank to provide enhanced financial and technical support to farmers, agribusinesses, and rural enterprises, thereby addressing long-standing challenges in the sector such as limited access to credit and modern farming techniques. Ghana’s agricultural sector, which employs a significant portion of the workforce, faces issues ranging from climate change impacts and inadequate infrastructure to post-harvest losses and insufficient market access. Increased funding for the ADB is anticipated to play a crucial role in mitigating these challenges and driving productivity.

The distinguished members of ADB’s new board, tasked with this critical mission, include Mr. Kenneth Kwamina Thompson as Chairperson and Mr. Edward Ato Sarpong as Managing Director. They are joined by Andrew Dari Chiwitey, Mr. Siisi Essuman-Ocran, Dr. E. Prince Arhin, Misbahu Mahama Adams, Wing Commander Samuel J.A. Allotey, Mr. Courage Akanwunge Asabagna, and Mr. Abdul Nasir M. Saani. Their collective efforts are expected to steer the ADB towards fostering greater food security, promoting value addition in agricultural produce, and creating a more resilient and prosperous agricultural landscape in Ghana.
