In a heartwarming display of solidarity, a delegation of female Vice Chancellors paid a courtesy call on Nana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, congratulating her on her election victory and expressing their support for the government’s agenda to build a better Ghana. The delegation comprised Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo of the University of Ghana, Prof. Lydia Aziato of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), and Prof. Esi Awuah, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR).
During their meeting, they discussed the importance of mentoring young female academics and addressing the challenges female Vice Chancellors face in navigating the ever-evolving landscape of higher education. Nana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who has made history as Ghana’s first female Vice President, emphasized the need to align tertiary institutions with the aspirations and needs of the people.
The female Vice Chancellors praised Nana Jane Opoku-Agyemang’s trailblazing leadership in academia and her strong commitment to education and women’s empowerment. They presented her with a bronze artwork embossed with the Adinkra symbol “Nea Ope Se Obedi Hene,” which translates to “He who wants to be king” (must first serve), representing leadership, service, and protection.
This meeting marked a significant moment in Ghana’s history, celebrating the achievements of women in academia and leadership. The solidarity and support expressed by the female Vice Chancellors demonstrate their commitment to advancing education and empowering women in Ghana.
