The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has forcefully refuted claims circulated by the online news outlet “Novareport” regarding the alleged arrest and detention of Kevin Okyere, the CEO and promoter of Springfield Energy, in Dubai. Novareport’s publication had suggested the detention stemmed from EOCO’s inaction on a prior petition concerning allegations of defrauding by false pretense. However, in a press statement released on November 2, 2025, the anti-graft agency categorically dismissed the arrest report as false. EOCO maintained that it does not comment on active investigations but expressed regret that Novareport failed to seek official clarification before publishing the inaccurate story, urging the public to disregard the misleading information.

Crucially, EOCO used the opportunity to confirm that Springfield Energy is currently the subject of two distinct and ongoing investigations within the office. The first is focused on a general petition filed against Springfield Energy, while the second is described as an “explosive case” involving the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation (BOST) company. EOCO highlighted that the BOST-Springfield investigation has been assigned priority status due to its potential and “immediate impact on BOST’s finances and the local economy.” This emphasis underscores the gravity of the allegations surrounding the energy company and the financial implications for a key state-owned enterprise like BOST.

In response to the speculation surrounding arrests, EOCO reiterated its long-standing procedural directive that “investigations must precede arrest and not the reverse.” This clarifies that the agency’s primary focus remains on meticulous inquiry and gathering evidence before any detention actions are taken. By confirming two active probes, the office seeks to reassure the public of its commitment to investigating and prosecuting economic and organised crimes in Ghana.

EOCO concluded its statement by affirming that it is diligently working to achieve its mandate and urging citizens to only rely on information directly provided by the agency regarding its operations.
