The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission is taking bold steps to boost its operational efficiency and compliance with international standards. A high-level delegation, led by Mr. Ahmadou Oury Balde and Mr. Olagunju Ashimolowo, has arrived in Gaborone, Botswana, for a five-day benchmarking mission to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) ¹.
From November 11 to 15, 2024, the ECOWAS team will delve into SADC’s approach to implementing EU Pillar standards, focusing on effective practices in financial management, procurement, and internal control. The mission’s primary objectives are to gain valuable insights, identify best practices, and observe processes that can be adopted to strengthen staff capacity and ensure long-term compliance.
By learning from SADC’s experiences and best practices, ECOWAS aims to refine its internal processes and align with EU standards. The insights gathered will guide the development of a targeted action plan to support ECOWAS in achieving these goals. This benchmarking mission demonstrates ECOWAS’s commitment to enhancing its operational efficiency and compliance with international standards.
ECOWAS’s proactive approach will likely have a positive impact on its future collaborations with the EU and other international organizations. As the regional economic community continues to navigate the complexities of global partnerships, this mission marks a significant step towards solidifying its position on the international stage.
