The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has expressed her delight at the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) returning to the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC). The NDC had boycotted IPAC meetings since 2021, citing perceived biases by the EC. However, the party announced its return to IPAC in December 2023.

Jean Mensa praised the NDC’s contributions since their return, stating that their suggestions have been significant and valuable. She noted that the discussions have been constructive, and the EC has taken on board the feedback from the NDC and other parties, implementing them in their processes.

The EC Chairperson particularly highlighted the valuable feedback from the NDC during the just-ended voter registration exercise. She emphasized the importance of collaboration between the EC and political parties, ensuring the success of Ghana’s democratic processes. The renewed partnership between the EC and NDC is seen as a positive step towards strengthening the country’s electoral system.
