Dr. Omane Boamah, the Director of IT and Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed frustration and skepticism towards the Electoral Commission (EC) following their admission of errors on ballot paper serial numbers in Volta and Ahafo regions. This comes after the EC announced plans to reprint the affected ballot papers, a move that was prompted by concerns raised by Dr. Boamah and others as far back as November 2, 2024.
Dr. Boamah took to social media to label the EC as “incompetent and error-ridden,” emphasizing that while reprinting the ballot papers is a step in the right direction, the EC needs to sharpen their arithmetic skills ahead of the presidential and parliamentary elections. This is not the first time the EC has made such errors, and Dr. Boamah urges citizens to remain vigilant, using the hashtags #EAGLEEYES and #OrganiseDontAgonise to mobilize support.
The EC’s credibility and competence are under scrutiny as Ghana prepares for its general elections. The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) has previously called on the EC to be proactive in addressing issues with the voters’ register, citing concerns over its credibility. With the EC’s track record of errors, it’s essential for citizens to remain engaged and proactive in ensuring the electoral process is free, fair, and transparent.
