Damongo, Savannah Region — The town of Damongo, nestled in the picturesque Savannah Region of Ghana, has witnessed a historic moment. Dr. Hajia Habiba Seidu-Fuseini, with roots deeply intertwined in royalty, has been enskinned as the Queenmother of her father’s royal gate—one of two gates that guard the town’s cultural legacy.

Dr. Habiba’s lineage is a representative of nobility. Having previously held the esteemed title of Pagnaa (Queen)within the Ghana Northern Union of Chicago since 1999, she now gracefully assumes her role as the custodian of Damongo’s ancestral heritage. Her parents, both royals, have bestowed upon her the unique privilege of occupying chieftaincy and Queenmother-ship in both doors—a testament to her exceptional lineage.

In 2022, Dr. Habiba achieved another milestone. The Dagomba Kingdom, known for its rich cultural heritage, enskinned her as Mion Suhudoo Naa (Chief of Peace). The Dagomba people, a trailblazing ethnic group, recognize the leadership and wisdom that women bring to their communities. Dr. Habiba’s enskinment reflects a paradigm shift—one where gender does not limit one’s capacity to lead.

She wears many hats. As a Family Nurse Practitioner (MSN-FNP-C), she tends to the health and well-being of her community. Her journey began as a Registered Nurse, serving in diverse specialties, including the prestigious United States Army Nurse Corps. Her dedication and expertise earned her the rank of Major before her retirement in 2019.

Dr. Habiba’s heart beats for the underserved and underprivileged. Through her work, she advocates tirelessly for equitable access to healthcare and education. Her mission extends beyond borders, promoting the development of Northern Ghana. In the vibrant Ghanaian community of Chicago, she weaves threads of tradition, preserving and celebrating the customs and culture of her homeland.
