Accra, Ghana – Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is expected to present Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, (NAPO) the Energy Minister, as his running mate for the upcoming presidential election to the party’s national council today, July 1, 2024.
According to the Majority Leader of Ghana’s Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Dr. Bawumia has made his decision and will formally submit the name to the national council for approval. This move comes after a thorough process, and sources close to the party have confirmed that Dr. Prempeh has emerged as the top choice.
The announcement is highly anticipated, and political analysts believe that Dr. Prempeh’s selection will strengthen the party’s chances in the upcoming election, particularly in the Ashanti Region, a key constituency for the NPP.
The Majority Leader said Dr. Prempeh’s experience as Energy Minister and his reputation as a competent leader are expected to complement Dr. Bawumia’s economic expertise, making them a formidable team in the race to succeed President Nana Akufo-Addo.
The NPP’s national council is expected to endorse Dr. Prempeh’s candidacy, paving the way for a strong campaign ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
