Outgoing Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia welcomed hundreds of cured leprosy patients from the Weija Leprosarium community to his official residence in Accra on New Year’s Day, hosting a heartwarming celebration that showcased his commitment to their well-being. This event was a testament to Dr. Bawumia’s dedication to supporting these individuals, ensuring they receive essential items like food and other necessities through the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) program.
Dr. Bawumia’s efforts to improve the lives of cured leprosy patients are part of a broader initiative to eradicate the stigma surrounding the disease. He has previously spoken out against the discrimination faced by leprosy patients, emphasizing the need to open our hearts and minds to support their cause. The event was a shining example of kindness and compassion, highlighting the importance of supporting society’s most vulnerable members.
As Dr. Bawumia spent quality time with the cured leprosy patients, he reaffirmed his commitment to their cause, and the patients expressed their gratitude, wishing him all the best in his future endeavors. Dr. Bawumia described the event as “all joy,” saying, “I spent New Year’s Day with my cured leper friends from the Weija Leprosarium, at my residence”.
