Tamale, Ghana – The Ghana Health Information Management System (GHIMS) has officially started its implementation at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), marking a major step toward restoring digital health information management within the facility.
The new system is anticipated to significantly enhance efficiency in healthcare delivery by facilitating the seamless exchange of information among healthcare facilities across the country.

Dr. (Med.) Abubakari Bawah Abdulai, the Chief Executive Officer of TTH, welcomed the Ministry of Health’s National Rollout and Stabilization Team, expressing the hospital’s delight at being included in the national program. Dr. Bawah stressed that GHIMS is “very dear to the Tamale Teaching Hospital,” assuring the visiting team of his personal commitment and the full cooperation of the entire hospital staff during the rollout.

He noted that the initiative perfectly aligns with Management’s vision of improving service quality and efficiency using technology-driven solutions.
Before deployment, the Ministry of Health team met with key stakeholders, including central Management, Sub-BMC managers, and unit heads, to finalize the implementation strategy for crucial departments. On-site training sessions for staff in selected areas have already begun.

The rollout at TTH underscores the commitment of the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to strengthening quality healthcare delivery through digital transformation. Ultimately, GHIMS is expected to boost efficiency, enhance data accuracy, and ensure seamless healthcare service delivery both within the hospital and across the national health network.
