The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced an outbreak of Dengue Fever, a clinical form of malaria, in some districts of the Eastern Region. The outbreak was detected through the national surveillance system, which reported unusual cases of clinical malaria that were not responding to antimalarial treatment.
A total of nine cases have been confirmed as Dengue Fever, prompting a team of entomologists and epidemiologists to join the regional team to investigate the outbreak. The GHS has issued an alert to all health workers in the region, urging them to enhance surveillance on Dengue Fever and ensure laboratory confirmation of all clinical malaria cases.
The outbreak has raised concerns among health officials, who are working to contain the spread of the disease. The GHS has called on Regional Directors of Health Service and Chief Executive Officers of Teaching Hospitals to ensure that the alert is communicated to all health workers in their respective regions, districts, and hospitals, including private facilities.
As the investigation continues, health officials are reminding the public to take precautions against mosquito bites, which can transmit the disease. The outbreak of Dengue Fever in the Eastern Region has highlighted the need for enhanced surveillance and prompt action to prevent the spread of the disease.
