Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Defence Minister-designate, has reassured Parliament’s Appointments Committee that he will serve with impartiality if approved for the role. During his vetting on January 28, Dr. Omane Boamah addressed concerns about his past affiliation with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), where he served as Director of Elections and IT.

Dr. Omane Boamah emphasized that his work with the NDC ended after the 2024 general elections and that he is committed to serving without bias. “No Ghanaian should have any fear about my impartiality,” he stated, adding that he can remain impartial even in a role as sensitive as chairperson of the Electoral Commission.

In addition to addressing concerns about his impartiality, Dr. Omane Boamah also used the opportunity to advise Ghanaians against attempting to enlist in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) without meeting the required qualifications. As a medical professional with knowledge of GAF operations, he warned that enlisting through improper means can have dire consequences, including severe outcomes during training.

Dr. Omane Boamah pledged to ensure fairness in recruitment into the Armed Forces and stressed the importance of maintaining high standards for physical, mental, and emotional readiness. He also promised to uphold professionalism and balance in his duties as Defense Minister, a role he is expected to take on as part of President John Dramani Mahama’s cabinet reshuffle.
