December 5 Declared Statutory Public Holiday for Farmers Day

The Ministry of the Interior has informed the public that Friday, December 5, 2025, has been declared a Statutory Public Holiday across the country. The declaration is made to observe Farmers Day. The announcement was signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak (MP), confirming that the day must be observed as a national holiday.

Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to combating fisheries crime at the Blue Justice 2025 Conference in Denmark. Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur, emphasized the need for stronger international cooperation to protect ocean resources and highlighted the increasing complexity of fisheries crime. She stressed the urgent need for deeper collaboration, improved information sharing, and unified enforcement systems.

The conference, held under the theme “United in Action Against Fisheries Crime,” gathered global leaders and enforcement agencies to advance collective action. Minister Arthur outlined six priority areas Ghana is advancing with its international partners, including joint patrols, real-time intelligence sharing, and specialized capacity building.

Ghana pledged to continue strengthening cooperation under the Blue Justice Initiative and other multilateral frameworks to ensure sustainable fisheries management and enhanced maritime governance. The Minister emphasized that addressing fisheries crime is essential for safeguarding marine ecosystems and protecting the livelihoods of Ghanaians who depend on the ocean for food and income.
