The upcoming Conclave, set to open on May 7, will bring together 135 Cardinal electors from 71 countries across five continents. Over three-quarters of the Cardinal electors were appointed by Pope Francis, reflecting his efforts to reshape the College of Cardinals and make it more international and less Eurocentric.

The Cardinals hail from diverse backgrounds, with 53 from Europe, 37 from the Americas, 23 from Asia, 18 from Africa, and 4 from Oceania. For the first time, 15 nations will be represented by their native Cardinal electors. The Cardinals’ ages range from 45 to 79, with 33 belonging to various religious orders.

Two Cardinal electors have confirmed they will not attend the Conclave due to health reasons, bringing the total number of participating Cardinals to 133. The Conclave will play a crucial role in determining the next Pope, and the diverse representation of Cardinals is expected to shape the outcome of the election.
