Congressman John Lewis, one of the big six civil rights icons and activists in the USA died Friday, July 17 2020. He was 80. He is being remembered by congressional colleagues, civil rights leaders and former presidents as a “titan” who fought for the rights of others at the peril of his own life for years.
John Lewis was a Democrat from Georgia known for his marquee leadership in congress and the civil rights movement .
He served Georgia’s 5th Congressional District, which covers most of Atlanta. He earns the respect of both Democrats and Republicans.
In December last year, he was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal cancer of the pancreas.
