A cholera outbreak in Kasoa, Ghana, has resulted in the deaths of five people, with 30 others currently receiving treatment at the Kasoa Polyclinic and Mother and Child Hospital. According to Anita Love Obo Amissah, Chief Executive of Awutu Senya East Municipality, three victims passed away on October 31, and two more on November 1.

Amissah expressed concern over the epidemic, emphasizing the importance of residents maintaining cleanliness in their homes and consuming healthy food. She urged Kasoa residents to remain vigilant, highlighting the crucial role of environmental cleanliness in preventing the spread of cholera. The Kasoa health facilities have also received referrals from neighboring constituencies, including Awutu Senya West and Gomoa East Districts.

Amissah called for a collaborative effort from surrounding areas to effectively manage and contain the disease. She commended health authorities for their swift response to the outbreak, praising their efforts to control and treat cases promptly. Residents were reminded to remain cautious, follow health guidelines, and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms arise.

Cholera is a bacterial infection that can cause severe diarrhea and vomiting, leading to dehydration and potentially death if left untreated. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends oral rehydration solution as the primary treatment for cholera, which can be made at home by mixing one liter of safe water with six teaspoons of sugar and half a teaspoon of salt.
