Timpo, former President of the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago, GNC, whose dedication and leadership have left an indelible mark on our collective progress and growth.
Few figures stand as tall and influential as Mr. Clement Timpo in the vibrant tapestry of the Ghanaian community in Chicago. His journey from a dedicated community member to a transformative leader is a testament to his unwavering commitment and visionary leadership.
Mr. Timpo’s tenure as the President of the Ghana National Council (GNC) of Metropolitan Chicago and the Ewe Association of Chicago marked a period of significant growth and development. Under his leadership, the GNC achieved its 501©(3) status, a milestone that opened new avenues for funding and community projects. This achievement was a bureaucratic victory and a foundational step that allowed the council to expand its reach and impact.
Recognizing the importance of digital presence in the modern age, Mr. Timpo spearheaded the creation of the GNC’s first website. This move enhanced communication within the community and provided a platform for showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Ghanaians in Chicago to a broader audience.
His leadership was characterized by significant administrative changes that streamlined operations and enhanced efficiency. One notable change was elevating the role of Secretary General to Executive President, which centralized leadership and improved decision-making processes.
In 2000, Mr. Timpo was crucial in liaising with the African International House, leading to a memorable two-day GhanFest. This event celebrated Ghanaian culture, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds to enjoy music, dance, food, and art. It was a testament to his ability to build bridges and foster unity within the community.
Among Mr. Clement Timpo’s notable other achievements was securing the first corporate sponsorship for the GNC from Western Union through a compelling proposal. He also orchestrated another successful proposal ensuring honorary chiefs and queens in Chicago received compensation when they were featured at the renowned Field Museum’s History of Kente show. Under his administration, successful fundraising was held to support the Black Queens during their World Cup soccer tournament debut at the 1999 Women’s World Cup held in the USA.
Beyond his administrative and leadership roles, Mr. Timpo is also a scholar with a MIS, Management Information Systems, BSc Accounting and DipStats, Diploma in Statistics. His expertise in this field has been valuable to the community, particularly during tax season. Many community members have benefited from his knowledge and willingness to assist with their tax needs, reflecting his dedication to service in every aspect of his life.
He serves on the advisory board of the Council of Ewe Associations of North America (CEANA), further extending his influence and guidance to a broader network. His contributions to the Ghanaian community in Chicago and beyond are immeasurable. His leadership, vision, and service have left an indelible mark, inspiring future generations to continue building on the foundation he helped establish.
While serving as a Facility Manager at Standard Parking, Clement Timpo assisted numerous Ghanaians and Africans in securing employment. His efforts provided job opportunities and fostered a supportive community within the workplace.
